AIGA Student UNITE 2017 @ UDA

On Thursday, March 9th I had the please of attending AIGA's Student Unite 2017 event.  Held at the Urban Discovery Academy, it is a wonderfully stimulating and functional location with a beautifully designed layout.  The event offered workshops that are fundamental for anyone interested in a career in design.  My first meeting was with City College Professor Bradford Prairie.  He gave very good tips on shooting and covered tools, software and photography basics.  He also offered additional help post event for anyone interested.  I found it completely inspiring.  Secondly our workshop titled "In-house Experience" was given by Angelo Outlaw, who shared a very useful perspective into working as an in-house designer.  Having worked for corporations and freelanced, I really connected with his insight and look forward to learning more about it.  Lastly, I was lucky to try my shot at the silk screening workshop given by local artist and designer Norman Ramos.  It was fun to learn the fundamentals of silk screening first hand and actually got to take a bag I screened myself.  Overall This was a very beneficial gathering for everyone involved.  I definitely would like to pursue joining AIGA and hope to become involved in future events.  Thank you to Mae Lin Levine and all who put this together.
